It seems that in the growth process of learning a new language, there comes a time in the early years when you can understand what the other person is saying, but you cannot communicate.

I went through the same phase when I started learning English and living in Australia.

I feel like it lasted maybe two years, when I could understand what people around me were saying, but I couldn't tell them how I felt about it.

At that time, I had always liked to observe people and I trained myself to read people's facial expressions.

I thought that if I couldn't communicate with people verbally, at the very least I wanted to read their emotions.

Then I guess I started to understand what people feel and what they want to express by their eyes and facial expressions.

After that experience, when I myself paint people

The eyes are the most important point.

It is no exaggeration to say that it is the place where I concentrate the most on drawing.

I want to express as much 'emotion' as possible in my drawings. People's emotions are fluid, but...

The eyes are very important to me because they are the window to emotions
